Alternative Version of the OSSLT

An alternative version of the OSSLT has been created for students with special education needs or special circumstances. This version contains multiple-choice and open-response questions only. The alternative version of the OSSLT is available in multiple formats. If a student requires one or more of the following formats, the school administrator will indicate that the student has an accommodation in the e-assessment system and then answer a series of questions to request the appropriate format of the Alternative Version of the OSSLT.

Please ensure that you have indicated that this student has an accommodation and that you have selected the format of the alternative version required in the e-assessment system. This will ensure that the online version of the test and the requested format of the alternative version match.

The following formats of the alternative version are available for the practice test and the OSSLT:

  • A Unified English Braille (contracted or uncontracted with printable regular- or large-print PDF).
    • EQAO requires between five and seven business days to process a request for this format.
  • A printable PDF format (regular or large print) for students who are unable to complete the online test, including for example, when using a third-party accessibility software such as the downloadable Kurzweil version.
    • EQAO requires three business days to process a request for this format.
  • American Sign Language (ASL) video format of the OSSLT.
    • EQAO requires three business days to process a request for this format.
  • MP3 audio files to be used with a printable PDF or Braille format for students who are unable to access the built-in audio in the e-assessment platform.
    • EQAO requires three business days to process a request for this format.

Note: Students who use the alternative version of the test and do not enter responses to questions in the e-assessment platform will need to have their responses transcribed into the e-assessment platform. The teacher or school administrator must log in to the e-assessment platform using the student’s OEN and transcribe the student’s responses, including the responses to the Student Questionnaire.

Note: For regular- and large-print PDF formats of the OSSLT, all single select responses must be entered into the e-assessment platform. Responses to the open-response questions must be transcribed into the e-assessment platform. Refer to the Guidelines for Scribes for more information.
